Business owner; rural land appraiser, broker & investment advisor; forestry consultant; Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala (reforestation project); executive committee with Resource Management Service (forestry consulting & timberland sales); currently offers rural land brokerage / investment services & forest management  through the companies of Land Smart Resources.

Selling land – Business manager of a land sales program with sales averaging $30 million per year across six states, over five years.

Buying land – Purchasing agent for individuals & companies. Examples include a 70,000 acre purchase in New York by a pension fund and numerous purchases for individuals across the southeastern United States.

Being able to work both sides of the street (buy & sell) takes experience.
Appraising land – Development and management of an appraisal business. Performed over 75 appraisals, up to 1.45 million acres in size for corporate, government, individual and pension fund landowners. Projects include farmland, commercial agricultural enterprises, standing timber and timberland.

The ability to understand the market place.
Timber inventory – Business manager of a timber inventory business specializing in large-scale timber inventory estimates. Projects total over 4 million acres including numerous projects over 200,000 acres and two projects over 1 million acres in size.

Getting the numbers needed for good decisions.
Managing land – Business manager for a land management company responsible for finding new clients. New accounts totaling 530,000 acres over 4 years. Responsibilities include working with the owners to clarify investment goals and tax issues, develop operations forecast & annual budgets, and communicating operating results to owners.

The ability to be persuasive across a range of technical and business issues.
Loan collateral services – Development and management of a business offering asset security services to lenders. The value of client assets approaching $1 billion.

Protecting the land & helping lenders and landowners work together.
Agricultural loan brokerage – Business manager of an agricultural loan origination business. Loans totaling $3 million to owners of farmland, cattle operations, food processing facilities and timberland. The ability to understand value across diverse ag-based businesses.
